Berlin: Day One
Sunday, March 13, we woke up in Amsterdam and took the Amster-Tram to the central station.
I love the Amstertram, especially the way it notified you what stop you were approaching
We went into the station and chilled for a bit while we waited for our nice German train to show up.
Northern trains are better than Italian trains, way better.

So we hopped on the train around noon and rode the next seven hours to Berlin. Not the most fun train ride I've ever had, it's tough sitting on a train that long. Finally we arrived in Berlin, and I have to say it was something of a surprise. The city was very different from anyplace else I've been in Europe.
Our first view of Berlin
This time it turned out our hostel was right across the street, and a pretty nice one at that.

Again we were on the 6th floor, and again we had a pretty great view.

That night we headed to a Biergarten to get dinner, it turns out we accidently ate at a very famous place called "Joe's". Wouldn't have guessed. The food was pretty good though. On our way back we stopped to photograph this really interesting Cathedral that had been bombed out during World War II and was preserved in its bombed out state.
One of many monuments to the great conflicts of the last century still standing in Berlin
We hung out around the hostel for the evening. We met some interesting characters in the Lobby, Walker and Cory (from Louisiana) and Mellisa and Alex (from Canada and Austrailia, living in London). Then it was off to sleep to get a head start on the next day.
