Berlin: Day Four

We spent basically the entire day in transit. First of all we didn't get up extremely early, then we checked out of the hotel and got lunch and tried to figure out how we could get to Munich, but it wasn't going to be possible much to our dismay, so instead we called the people at the hotel in Vienna and asked if we could arrive a day early (Thursday instead of Friday) and they said that was fine. We went to the train station and looked into trains, found a night train we could take to Vienna (its a 13.5 hour trip from Berlin). That worked out pretty well, we were to leave at 6:30PM and arrive in Vienna at about 8:30AM. So we chilled around the Zoological Garden (where our hostel was) and played pool for a while, wanted to go to a movie but missed the only show we could have caught before our train, played pool for a while...

Brett is really good at pool. I'm not.

After playing pool Jason and I went shopping for a bit and found some cool stores. One had these 3D postcards which were REALLY cool, its hard to describe them but basically it was two pictures of the same thing taken at a couple inches apart (like your eyes are) and then placed in a filter so that when you look through the filter one eye sees one photo and the other sees another. The effect was REALLY cool. I bought a cool T-Shirt at this German joke store that showed the "Walk/Don't Walk" signs (at street intersections) from communist Berlin, they're really funny looking. The guy on the signs has this big hat for no apparent reason. He doesn't walk, he runs, and for the don't walk sign he holds out his arms like you should hug him. It's wierd.
So we caught the night train to Vienna. It was actually a pretty cool experience taking the night train, the bunks were pretty comfortable but our cabin stank of tired travelers with nasty shoes. I finished reading "The Hunt for Red October" (good book by the way) and then got a pretty good ammount of sleep, but it was wierd because even though I was comfortable and able to fall asleep well I woke up a whole lot during the night, so I didn't feel extremely rested the next day. But regardless the trip went fast and the next day we were in Vienna which was AWESOME! So onto Thursday!
